Housing : Family Preservation Center
Housed in a large former dormitory, on the grounds of the Katzenbach School for the Deaf in Ewing Township, HomeFront's Family Preservation Center has provided temporary emergency housing to over 1,200 homeless women and mothers with children since its inception in 2003.
Amenities at the shelter include:
- Furnished private bedrooms with a private or semi-private bathroom
- Cafeteria and food services providing three nutritious meals a day
- Library with books for all ages and cozy places to sit and read
- Educational and social activities for adults and children
- Fenced playground and beautiful pergola located near a stream
- Laundry services provided free of charge
- After school academic help for children
- Evening enrichment programs
- Daytime nursery
Case managers, family care workers, and Children's Program staff work cohesively to provide a structured environment -- one that allows our guests to set attainable goals (e.g., find employment, finish school, find and retain housing).
If a family is ready to take the next step forward in their life, we provide all the support tools to ensure their success. By partnering with local agencies we are able to provide services that include:
- Child reunification program
- Domestic violence counseling
- Substance abuse counseling
- Mental health counseling
- Housing assistance
- G.E.D. training
- Life skills and parenting classes
- Computer training
- Job readiness training
These services, when used effectively, have often resulted in a more stable future for families and their children. Additional support from donors, group and individual volunteers who contribute time, money and other valuable resources to our center has helped FPC become a safe haven for families while they work on the issues that brought them to our doorstep.
"We help change lives by helping families
break the cycle of poverty."
