What We Do : Lawrence Community Center

A Community Center for You

The Lawrence Community Center is managed by HomeFront as both a community center and the site for HomeFront support programs. In September 2009, after the Center faced a year of economic decline, the Lawrence Township Community Council determined that HomeFront, given its successful track record of property management, would be the ideal organization to bring the facility back to life. Currently the Center provides a safe, welcoming place where Lawrence Township residents and guests can gather and participate in cultural, educational and recreational programs. The Center also serves as the point of delivery for social services, including a food pantry, referrals for clothing, determination of eligibility for food bags and clothing/household goods, assistance with obtaining family health insurance, back rent and utilities –– all of which benefit Lawrence Township residents.

The Center hosts many programs such as Jazzercise®, Cub Scout and Girl Scout meetings, jewelry making classes, an after-school program, and basketball and indoor soccer leagues. We will add more programs as we determine what residents would like to have at their community center.

Please stop by and visit, or call 609-883-3379 or email Lawrencecomctr@homefrontnj.org for more information.

ETS: Impacting Our Community
Through guidance , in-kind support, and the generosity of  its employees, Educational Testing Service (ETS) is helping to transform the Lawrence Community Center into an educational hub for Lawrence residents and HomeFront clients. The Center will be a place to learn English, update resumes, practice for job interviews and learn new skills; to share what you know with others and to learn from them; to meet new people; and to have fun with neighbors in a safe, accessible, attractive and welcoming environment.

The Center will be a major beneficiary of the volunteer activities of ETS staff and their families, who will either work behind the scenes or directly with HomeFront clients, Lawrence residents of all ages and from all neighborhoods — truly a community effort.

The Vision
In the near term, the center will include a community-accessible, state-of-the-art computer room to provide Lawrence residents and HomeFront clients with Internet access, a variety of computer-based learning programs, including some ETS products, word-processing and other frequently used applications.
