What We Do - Food . . . and more

photo

Hundreds of families in Mercer County must decide each month whether to buy food or to pay the rent. We help to keep these families from becoming homeless through our Food Pantry program. HomeFront distributes 700 bags of free groceries to low-income families each month. Your financial support helps stock the shelves of our food pantry.

HomeFront also coordinates the delivery of donated hot meals prepared by area congregations and community groups. These dedicated volunteers also donate and prepare food for HomeFront events from holiday parties to graduation ceremonies. To participate contact us at .

Last year we distributed more than $2.6 million worth of donated goods and professional services to our families.

FreeStore

Provides donated clothing and soft goods to families free of charge. A special section of the store, Suitably Dressed, is dedicated to helping women dress professionally for their jobs.

Furnish the Future

HomeFront picks up donated used furniture and appliances and places the items in our warehouse where clients may choose what they need for their homes.

Driving to Independence

As transportation is essential to finding higher paying jobs, donated cars are given to our families.

Emergency Food Bags

Once a month, clients may receive a grocery bag filled a week’s supply of food from our food pantry. Food is obtained from the Mercer Street Friends food bank, USDA surplus items and local food drives.

The Resource Network

This program provides our client families with the tools necessary to establish a life with dignity.

Focus on Children

Because homeless children are at great risk, we provide them with counseling, educational opportunities, which give them a solid basis for future academic and social success.

Joy, Hopes and Dreams

Helps ensure that the children don’t fall behind in school. Tutoring with special emphasis on reading skills is provided three nights a week, after-school programs are offered on weekdays and educational/recreational activities on weekends.

Cherry Tree Club

Operated in collaboration with Prince of Peace Lutheran Church in West Windsor, this award-winning pre-school program provides pre-schoolers a loving, nurturing, stable environment. We support them academically and socially while overseeing their physical and emotional development.

Summer Camp

Critical for all our client children especially those who have a working parent and might be left home alone during the day. Our average daily attendance is over 100 homeless children.

Birthday Celebrations

All FPC and TLC children receive a cake and present on their birthday. At Christmas, every client child may submit a wish list for two presents he/she would most like. Wishes are fulfilled by kind and caring members of the community.

Triumphant Teens

An independent living skills program that helps prepare teens 14-16 for jobs.

Back-to-School Project

Through community volunteer efforts, our client and graduate children receive new clothes, sneakers and backpacks with school supplies every September.
