Funding our many programs is HomeFront's greatest challenge. It takes money to move a family into a new home, to pay a utility bill, and to buy food to feed hungry children. Your financial support helps break the cycle of poverty for a family in Mercer County.

The Homeless

On any given day in Mercer County, over 415 families are living in temporary shelters for the homeless. Many of Mercer County's homeless are in elementary school or preschool; some are in diapers. They are parents, minimum wage workers, and high school graduates. They are people who simply do not have homes. Housing in Mercer County is scarce and expensive. Families working full-time, low-wage jobs struggle to make ends meet. For example, a single mom, working full-time at $8.00 an hour, takes home $1160.00 a month. A two bedroom apartment in Trenton costs an average of $900.00 a month. If she misses work, loses her job, or falls behind in her rent, she may lose her apartment and become homeless. HomeFront provides intensive case management to help our clients overcome their obstacles, achieve self-sufficiency, and break the cycle of poverty.
