Four years ago Hannah Wagner, 12, learned that $1000 could provide clean, comfortable room supplies for four families for a year at HomeFront’s Family Preservation Center, our emergency shelter for homeless moms with children. The money is used to purchase brand new towels, bed linens, pictures, lamps and other accessories, to help make a shelter room a home for HomeFront clients. Amazed that so many children were homeless and living at this shelter, Hannah considered ways to raise the $1000 needed to sponsor a room for a year. She threw all her energy into garage sales and spoke passionately with family and friends about all she had seen at the Family Preservation Center.
For the past four years since then Hannah has raised $1000 every year in support of her room at the Family Preservation Center. Outside this room there is a plaque that reads: “Sponsored by the Friends and Family of Hannah Wagner.” Her story inspires other children to figure out ways they too can help the families at HomeFront.
