Women in the US have quilted since the early settlers arrived here.   Throughout our history quilts have been made to provide warmth as well as an outlet for creativity.

In today’s world many people quilt as a creative outlet making not only utilitarian bed covers but also for wall art.  Studies have found improvement in mental health and well being among individuals with creative hobbies such as quilting,  https://academic.oup.com/jpubhealth/article/34/1/54/1550848/The-relationship-between-quilting-and-wellbeing#44843675
